Welcome to the Wild Doody blog, “Get Wild”
Here is where I want to inspire you to get wild with locations, get wild with your ideas, get wild with your techniques…you get the idea, right? I have so many exciting things to share in this space. This is where I will clue you in on some of my favorite locations for wildlife and landscape photography. These locations stretch from the beaches of North Carolina to the U.S. West and even into Mexico and the Caribbean. I’ll discuss information about travel and workshops to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Smoky Mountain National Park, waterfalls, the Florida Alligator farm, North Carolina bird sanctuaries and wildlife refuges, even your own backyard. I’ll also share my favorite tips for protecting yourself and your gear when you are photographing in the wilds of nature. I’ll tell you how I travel with my camera equipment to keep it safe during air travel. We will discuss new gear from big lenses to my favorite little gadgets you can make yourself to improve your photography.
Here’s the thing—we can discuss forever our photography plans, where we plan to go for the best wildlife photos or landscape photography and new bigger, better, camera lenses for wildlife. We can argue the best camera settings for landscape or the best camera brand— Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc. but most importantly, and vitally critical to our success, we have to get up off the couch and go outside. It takes a serious effort to get up before the sun rises and stay out late for the shot. At any given time you’ll be hot, cold, wet, hungry, battle bugs, or need a bathroom. The photographer who is prepared and committed to capturing the shot will come home with cards full of images…or they won’t because one thing is absolutely certain, you can never predict what nature and wildlife might throw at you. Plan for the worse, hope for the best often applies here but the rewards of wildlife and nature photography are endless.. So let me hear your inner Wild—say it outloud—“Grrrrr” or whatever your primal voice sounds like LOL! Now let’s get up, go out, and capture some magic in nature.
