I had great teachers as a kid even in the public school system. As an adult, that continues to be so. I feel very fortunate to have surrounded myself with other photographers who are incredibly generous with their time, talent and knowledge and I can honestly say they are partially responsible for my success. I learned so much as they pushed me to try new things, guided me as I explored, and celebrated with me when I succeeded. That old expression "sharing is caring" certainly applies here. Now it's time for me to pay it forward. You must give back to get back.
The thing I find most amusing is that I didn't anticipate I would enjoy speaking to photography clubs and guilds or teaching classes for the Professional Photographers of America, but I do. It's a serious high for me. I don't even get nervous because it comes from the heart. Sharing my passion with other photographers and turning them on to new techniques and new subjects, excites me. I don't play my cards close to the vest. If you ask me and I know the answer, I'll share it. If I don't know the answer, I'll join you on your quest to find it. I certainly don't know everything, not even a far cry from everything, but I know a little something that works for me and helps me acheive my photography goals. As a PPA Master Photographer I have been charged with sharing my knowledge—my degree requires me to do so but it has become a charge I truly enjoy. I will be your biggest cheerleader when you have that "A-Ha" moment. It's a win for all of us!
Recently I spoke at the Professional Photographers of North Carolina's Central seminar. Here's a link to highlights of that presentation.
If you are interested in learning more or having me speak at your organization, send me an email. I'd love to hear from you!
